Snooker hasn't always been as popular as what it is today. The first
world snooker tournament was held back in 1927 but attracted very
few players. In these early years Joe Davis dominated the
championships winning it a record 15 times. In 1977 the world
snooker championships were hosted at the Crucible Theatre in
Sheffield for the first time and as been held there ever since.
The 2010 snooker world championships will take
place at the usual venue of the Crucible Theatre in
Sheffield, South Yorkshire. They begin on the 17th of April
and end on the 3rd of May.
The most successful modern era player is Stephen Hendry who has
won the world snooker championships 7 times. Mark Williams has
just won the recent China Open and will now be one of the favourites
to win this years (2010) world championships although Ronnie
O'Sullivan could have something to say about that! |
